Dutilleux was born in St. Gillis in 1876. He went on to study at the Academy of Art, Brussels from 1895 to 1896 and became a painter of figures, still life, landscape and marines.He exhibited for the first time in 1900 and participated with work in the Salons Triennaux in Gand and Liege. Dutilleux worked for a while on the French Coast.He lived at Nieuport before World War I, and afterwards depicted the Great Battle L'Yser, which was commissioned by the Belgium Government. Dutilleux was a member of the Artist Group, Circle Le Labeur, and was a founder member of the Uccle Centre D'Art.
