PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG BOY, PIETER VAN DER DVSSENWITH A SHEEP
JAN VAN HAENSBERGEN 1642 - 1705
Oil on canvas 18 ½ x 14 ¾ inches Framed size 26 x 23 inches
Haensbergen was born in Utrecht in 1682. He was a Dutch painter and portraitist and was the pupil and follower of C. van Poelenburgh. With Haensbergen's small landscapes he often includes figures of bathing nymphs or notable Biblical figures. For his portraiture he always manages to create lively faces. He was particularly good at painting portraits of children as illustrated by the excellent example. In his later period he painted portraits in the manner of Caspar Netscher. The work of D. van der Lisse and A. van Cuylenborch is also similar.
Haensbergen died at The Hague in 1705.
