Rene was born on 14 June 1881in La Roche-sur-Yon, France.
He became a painter of portraits, landscapes and mythological subjects and studied under the academic masters, William Adolphe Bouguereau, Gabriel Ferrier, Edouard Toudouze and Marcel Baschet.
Rene was a painter of the Parisian smart set, but turned to painting landscapes when staying in the Vendee.
At the end of his life he decorated the Chapel at Prefailles where he lived.
Rene exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais of which he was an associate member from 1903.
The Musee Municipal of La Roche-sur-Yon, Vendee dedicated a retrospective exhibition to him in 1988.
Rene was a Chevalier of the Legion d’Honneur.

He died in December 1964 in Prefailles (Loire-Atlantique)
