SHEEP RESTING IN A LANDSCAPE
SIDNEY RICHARD PERCY
1821-1886
Oil on canvas 11 x 18 inches
Framed size 15 x 22 inches
Sidney Richard Percy was one of England’s finest 19th century landscape painters.
He was a member of the famous Williams family, but used the name Percy to distinguish himself from them. His work is highly appreciated for its mastery of the effects of weather and light, with bright & meticulous colours, fluent brushwork and fine draughtsmanship.
Percy exhibited works at the Royal Academy from 1842-to 1886, the British Institute, the Royal Society of British Artists and other venues. He painted in Devon, Yorkshire, the Lake District and Skye, but mostly in North Wales. Percy’s son Herbert also was a landscape painter.
His studio sale was held at Christies, 27 November 1886.
