Alfred was born in London, the eldest son of Leopold Breanski.
He went on to become a distinguished British landscape painter who became famous for his grand and breath-taking views on the Thames and of Scotland and Wales. He was able to produce stunning effects and often bathed his landscapes in floods of golden light. Alfred usually inscribed his paintings with a title and date on the reverse. He is best known for his highland mountain views with Cattle at the water’s edge but also painted some very charming views on the Thames.
Alfred exhibited his paintings, 43 at the Royal Academy between 1872 & 1890 and also at the Royal Society of British Artists in Suffolk Street.
He married Annie Roberts a Welsh painter in 1873 and they had seven children. Two of their sons, Alfred Jnr (Fontville) and Arthur, also became artists.
