This pair of paintings are based on Van der Meulen’s works in the Louvre, Paris.
The original pieces in the Louvre were painted by Adam Frans der Meulen, a highly successful Flemish painter who specialized in painting land battle scenes.
He moved to Paris in 1662 and became King Louis XIV favourite painter of this subject matter.
These two paintings depict successful campaigns fought by King Louis.
