Henry Shirley was a London painter who specialized in genre scenes and landscapes with figures.
He went on to exhibit his work from 1843 to 1870 at the British Institution and the Society of British Artists, Suffolk Street and also at the Royal Academy from 1844 to 1859.
His paintings have a very individual style but this early work is something of homage to J.M.W. Turner being more classical in feeling.
He lived in London and Kentish Town.
